Homemade Chicken in Gravy

This homemade chicken in gravy is perfect for a quick dinner or for Sunday lunch. Smothered chicken in gravy is so simple to make. All you need is a large skillet to brown your chicken in. Once your chicken is browned, remove it from the pan, and make the homemade gravy from the remnants from the chicken. It's so perfectly good and is the best comfort meal. Equipment

  • Large Cast Iron Skillet or Dutch Oven
  • Kitchen Knife
  • Spatula or Large Spoon
  • Meat Tenderizer optional

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs Chicken Breasts
  • 1 tbsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tbsp Onion Powder
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Pepper
Gravy
  • 1 1/2 cups Heavy Cream
  • 2 tbsp Flour
  • 1 tsp Sugar or Sweetener Substitute

Instructions

  • Take your chicken breasts and cut them into strips about two inches wide. Tenderize them if you would like, but this step is optional. Season both sides of them with your salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder.
  • Turn on your burner to medium to high heat under your skillet. Add in about a tablespoon or two of oil to keep the chicken from sticking. Add on your chicken to the skillet one at a time. Don't let them touch each other. Cook them, rotating sides, until the temperature is over 165 degrees. Then, remove them from the skillet.
  • Once all the chicken is cooked and removed, turn the burner to medium to low heat. Add in your heavy cream and stir, getting the seasonings from the bottom of the skillet mixed in the cream. Add in your sugar then your flour one tablespoon at a time, constantly stirring. I used about two tablespoons until I got the perfect gravy consistency.
  • Turn the heat to low then add your chicken back into the gravy. Let them simmer in the gravy for around 5 to 10 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
