Homemade Hamburger Steak and Gravy

This good, old fashioned homemade hamburger steak and gravy is the perfect comfort meal. These are pan fried hamburger patties smothered in homemade brown gravy. The gravy is made from scratch and is so simple to make. Just use your patty drippings, beef broth, flour, and a little heavy cream to make it so creamy and delicious. Serve it with rice or mashed potatoes for the ultimate southern meal.

Equipment

  • 15" Cast Iron Skillet
  • Spatula
  • Measuring Cups

Ingredients
  

  • 8 Hamburger Patties
  • 4 cups Beef Broth
  • 2/3 cup Flour
  • 3/4 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
Patty Seasonings
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder
  • Paprika

Instructions
 

  • Add your seasonings together in a small bowl. Sprinkle of both sides of each patty. Turn heat to medium-high. Add patties.
  • Sauté patties for several minutes on each side until they are fully cooked. Remove from the skillet and set aside on a plate. The patties should have an internal temperature of at least 145 degrees.
  • Reduce heat in the skillet to medium and add in a cup of broth. Slowly sprinkle in flour and it will start to become thickened. Keep adding broth and flour, constantly stirring. You will use all four cups of broth.
  • Add in your heavy cream and sugar and stir. If it's not thick enough, keep slowly adding flour. Add your hamburger patties back to the skillet with gravy. Let simmer on low for a few minutes. Serve and enjoy!
