Ham and Red Eye Gravy

I love this country ham and red eye gravy. This is recipe where you use fatty slices of ham, cook them down to render the fat, then pout a cup of coffee in the skillet and a few seasonings to make a dark and rich gravy. This is a classic southern recipe and it's perfect when you're looking for recipes with leftover ham.

Equipment

  • Large Skillet

Ingredients

  • 12-16 oz Country Ham (or leftover ham)
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 10 oz Brewed Coffee
  • 1 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Cajun Seasonings

Instructions

  • Add ham and butter to a large skillet. Sauté until ham is nicely cooked and browned.
  • Remove ham from the skillet and add in coffee. It will start to start to thicken. Add in your sugar and seasonings. A lot of people don't add in the seasonings, but I feel like it cuts the harsh coffee flavor.
  • Return the ham back to the gravy. Serve over grits, eggs or side of your choice. Enjoy!
