Deep Fried Cake Bites

These deep fried cake bites are seriously what dreams are made of. Kind of like a funnel cake, you’ll take a box of cake mix and prepare it accordingly. Add in more flour then take a cookie scoop and drop it in some hot oil until nice and golden. Serve warm with any of your favorite toppings. These are seriously the bomb.
Ok. These are seriously a cross between funnel cake balls and hushpuppies. No but really…These cake bites are the easiest quick dessert. They are also really cheap to make. If you’re into carnival type food or any kind of fried dessert, these are for you.
Equipment You’ll Need
The main equipment you’ll need for this recipe is a large bowl, some measuring cups, a large pot or Dutch oven, a cookie scoop and a slotted spoon.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Yellow Cake Mix:
You’ll need one box of yellow cake mix.
Eggs:
Most cake mix boxes call for two to three large eggs.
Oil:
Most cake mixes also call for about a half or third of a cup of oil.
Flour:
You’ll also need a cup and a half of flour.
Toppings:
For toppings, I used chocolate syrup, whipped cream and sprinkles. You could also use powdered sugar or ice cream.
How to Make These Deep Fried Cake Bites
Step one:
Heat about a quart of oil in a large pot or Dutch oven on medium heat until it reaches 350 degrees.
Step two:
Mix the cake mix according to the box. They typically call for water, eggs and oil. Next, add in about a cup and a half of flour. You’ll want it to really thicken.
Step three:
Scoop the dough with a cookie scoop and drop it straight into the hot grease. The cake bites should flip on their own once one side is finished cooking. Remove and place on a paper towel lined plate. Repeat until batter is gone. Top with favorite toppings. Serve warm and enjoy!
