If you’re craving steak, this garlic butter steak and potatoes skillet is it. It’s juicy ribeye and tender gold potatoes cooked in lots of butter, spices and minced garlic. These steak bites melt in your mouth and so do the buttery potatoes. This is a perfect one-pot skillet dish that super simple and quick to make.
I cook a lot of steak around my house. A lot. Allen loves steak. I’m always trying to come up with something different. This steak and potatoes recipe is perfect, plus it’s fairly quick. You’re going to first start with your potatoes. Cut them in half and cook them for several minutes in the butter and spices. Then, add in the steak with more butter and garlic.
We love our steak on the rare side, so it won’t take long to cook. If you prefer yours more done, just sauté’ them longer. Add your potatoes back to the skillet and they are so good in the steak butter. I promise, you won’t regret making this recipe.
Equipment You’ll Need
Yall. I tag this skillet all the time. If you don’t have one, trust me, you NEED it. I used the Lodge 15″ skillet for this recipe. It’s big and deep enough to hold everything once you add the potatoes back in. Other than that, I used my trusty thermometer. This is the exact one I have. It’s $9 at Walmart. You don’t need anything fancy. I made sure my pieces were around the 135ish range. We like our steak medium-rare. See the temp chart below for steak. You don’t have to have a thermometer for this garlic butter steak and potatoes skillet, but it is ideal

Ingredients You’ll Need
Ribeye Steaks:
I used 3 large, nice cut ribeye steaks. You’ll want them cut fairly thick. You’ll then cut them into cubes. Don’t trim any fat off!
Baby Gold Potatoes:
I bought a 1.5 pound bag of baby gold or Yukon potatoes. These work so perfect with this recipe. They are small and they cook very well and quick in the skillet.
LOTS of Butter:
I think overall, I used about a stick and a half of butter. I first sauted the potatoes in a half a stick then the steak in a whole stick of butter. Yum.
Minced Garlic:
Adds flavor the butter. I used the minced garlic in a jar, not the dry spice.
Seasonings:
I love coarse salt with steak. I used salt, pepper, thyme and oregano.
How to Make This Garlic Butter Steak and Potatoes Skillet
Step One:
Cut potatoes in half. Melt 1/2 a stick of butter in a large skillet on medium heat. Add a little salt, pepper, thyme and oregano. Add potatoes cut side down into the butter. Leave them in the skillet without stirring for several minutes.
Step two:
Stir the potatoes and let them cook for a new more minutes. Remove them from the pan and set them aside. Cut your ribeyes into cubes. Sprinkle them with salt and pepper.
Step three:
Add a whole stick of butter into the skillet, still on medium heat so it doesn’t burn too quickly. Add in your steak bites. Brown the outsides while monitoring the internal temperature according to preference. Once they are browned add potatoes back to the skillet and stir.

Remove from heat when internal temp of each bite is at your preference. Serve and enjoy!
