King Cake Cinnamon Pull Apart Bread

This king cake cinnamon pull apart bread is what dreams are made of. This is the most perfect and easiest of Mardi Gras desserts. It’s basically a biscuit or cinnamon roll monkey bread. It’s canned biscuits quartered, rolled into balls then tossed in cinnamon sugar. Pile them up in a bundt pan and bake. Once it’s cooled drizzle some classic king cake icing and sprinkles over the top. This recipe is so festive and perfect for the Mardi Gras season.
If you’ve been following my page for a while, you probably caught on that I live in Louisiana. Mardi Gras is so important here!! Even up North! I’m not the best baker from scratch, nor do I consider myself fluent in any dough recipes. So…this is my rendition of an easy king cake recipe. I used canned biscuits and made a cinnamon role monkey bread that tastes and looks like king cake. Really simple and delicious and sort of the same…ish
Equipment You’ll Need
For equipment, you’ll really need a bundt pan. I got this one from Walmart and I really like it. It’s nonstick, but I still sprayed it with cooking spray before I used it. You’ll also need some mixing bowls, a knife and some sprinkles!
Ingredients You’ll Need
Canned Biscuits:
This is really a grands biscuits monkey bread recipe. I used three large cans of southern style biscuits. I did not get the flakey kind.
Cinnamon and Sugar:
I used a cup of sugar and about two tablespoons of cinnamon.
Butter:
I melted a half stick of butter and poured it over the dough balls in the bundt pan before baking. This will just bring it all together better.
Icing:
For the icing, I used about a fourth of a block of cream cheese, some powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. This is that traditional king cake glaze icing.
Sprinkles:
You can’t have a Mardi Gras dessert without purple, green and yellow sprinkles!
How to Make Mardi Gras This Cinnamon Pull Apart Bread
Step one:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Cut your biscuits into quarters and roll each piece into a ball.
Step two:
In a bowl, mix together cinnamon and sugar. Toss each dough ball into the sugar mix until it’s nice and coated. Add each ball to a greased bundt pan.
Step three:
Melt four tablespoons of butter and pour over all the balls in the bundt pan. Bake for around 30 minutes or until the top is nice and golden.
Step four:
While your cake is baking, mix together all the ingredients for the icing in a separate bowl and set aside.
Step five:
Remove the cake from the oven and flip over. The bread should come right out. Let it cool for at least 15 minutes, then add your icing and sprinkles. Serve and enjoy!
