Discover the perfect caramelized brussel sprouts recipe made with pepper jelly with a hint of sweetness and tang, ready in just 15 minutes!
These pepper jelly caramelized brussel sprouts have become a favorite around here. They only require two ingredients along with some salt and pepper and that’s it. You’ll sauté the brussel sprouts in cast iron, then remove from heat and stir in some spicy pepper jelly. Taking less than 10 minutes to make, you seriously can’t beat them. Plus, they are amazingly delicious.
These cast iron brussels sprouts are my new favorite vegetable to cook. I love how easy they are to make. I went ahead and bought the store-bought halved brussels sprouts, so there’s really no hopping or cutting involved. All you do is add them to your skillet with a little olive oil and salt and pepper, brown them up really good until they’re nice and tender. Remove them from heat and add your pepper jelly. I used a spicy pepper jelly from Tabasco. There are all sorts of pepper jelly you can buy from the grocery store.
Questions you may have:
Do I use whole or halved brussels sprouts?
I used halved. I bought them already halved. You can used whole brussels, but keep in mind that the cooking time will be longer.
Where do I find pepper jelly?
I will be by the jelly and peanut butter in your grocery store. I live in Louisiana, so I used a Tabasco spicy pepper jelly. You can also get milder flavors. This recipe is great with whatever variation you decide to use.
Bitter Brussel Sprouts?
You will initially cook down the brussel sprouts in plenty of olive oil and salt and pepper. They will turn a darker green, and to me, this takes away all of the bitterness.
Equipment You’ll Need
Not only does this recipe require hardly any ingredients, it doesn’t hardly require any equipment either. All you’ll need is a cast-iron skillet and a spoon or spatula. I Think I used a 10 or 12-inch cast iron for this recipe.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Brussel Sprouts:
I used 24 ounces of halved brussels sprouts. I bought them from the store already in half. If not, you can cut them after you buy them.
Olive Oil:
You’ll need about a tablespoon of olive oil to sauté the brussels sprouts in.
Salt & Pepper:
Before you add the pepper jelly, You’ll add a sprinkle of salt and pepper to give them a little more flavor.
Spicy Pepper Jelly:
I used the whole jar of pepper jelly. It’s about a third of a cup in total. I used one from Tabasco, but you can really use any brand or flavor. I just like the spicy one the best.
How to store these caramelized brussel sprouts:
These will keep in the fridge for up to five days. You can add the contents to a skillet and then heat over low heat. You can also heat individual servings in the microwave.
