Bacon and Caramelized Onion Hummus and Pita Bread
This bacon and caramelized onion hummus and pita bread appetizer. Yum. A different twist on your typical hummus flavors. It's a simple, homemade hummus topped with bacon, sweet, caramelized onion, and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. This dip is so good I could make a meal out of it.

Hummus
- 1 can Chickpeas
- 1/2 cup Tahini
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 2 tbsp Minced Garlic
- 3 tbsp Lemon Juice

Drain the can of chickpeas and add them to the food processor or blender. Add in the tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, cumin and salt. Blend for several minutes.
Add water one tablespoon at a time until it's thinned to a proper consistency. It will be thick and grainy before adding the water. Empty and add to a plate or platter.
Slice onion thinly. Add to a skillet on medium heat with olive oil. Sauté until golden brown then add brown sugar. Sauté for a few more minutes then remove from skillet. Fry bacon until cooked then remove from pan.
Add onions and bacon to the top of the hummus. Sprinkle the top with a little more brown sugar then drizzle with balsamic vinegar. Serve with pita bread and enjoy!
