Questions You Might Have:
What type of pork chops should I use?
I used a thin-cut, bone-in pork chop. However, you could use whatever cut you’d like. Remember, if you choose a thicker cut, especially a bone-in thicker cut, the cooking times may be a little longer.
I would also like to add if you get porkchops that have a lot of fat on them to definitely trim that off. The fat will prohibit your meat from absorbing the flavor.
Does it matter what type of apples I use?
I use the gala apples. I like them the most and I always have them as snacks at my house. I would recommend a tart apple. They are really going to cook down during the process.
Can I add in other vegetables to make this a one pot meal?
Sure! Maybe add some diced baby red potatoes or even some sweet potatoes would really work well in this dish.
Can’t find apple cider?
I know that apple cider tends to be a seasonal item. I would substitute with two cups of apple juice mixed with two teaspoons of cinnamon and a teaspoon of allspice.
Equipment you’ll need:
The obvious item you’ll need to make these pork chops is a large crockpot. The one I used was 7 quarts. Next, you’ll need a skillet to sear your pork chops with. I always use cast iron, but you can use any skillet that you have. You’ll want it to be very hot.
Other miscellaneous items you’ll need include some tongs for handling your chops, a knife to cut up your vegetables, and then a ladle for serving.
Ingredients you’ll need:
Pork Chops:
I used 5 bone-in, thin pork chops. I prefer to use the thinner pork chops. You’ll want to use something with not too much fat on them.
Apples:
You’ll need about 3 apples. I used Gala apples. A tart apple would be best to use. If you use Red Delicious apples, I feel like they would just totally disintegrate. However, your flavor would still be there.
Baby Carrots:
I added about two cups of baby carrots. These add flavor and are nice to eat with the chops as a vegetable side.
Onion:
I used one yellow onion. I sliced it into wedges. This will add flavor to the mix.
Apple Cider:
You’ll need two cups of apple cider. I used storebought, but if you can’t find any, you can add two cups of apple juice with two teaspoons of cinnamon and a teaspoon of allspice.
Worcestershire Sauce:
I just added a dash of Worcestershire sauce for flavor.
Seasonings:
For seasonings, I used salt pepper, onion and garlic powder for my pork chops.
How to reheat these apple cider pork chops:
This dish is not one that I would recommend making ahead or freezing. These pork chops are very tender, and they run the risk of becoming mushy. For reheating, you can always microwave individual servings. For reheating in bulk, I would store the leftovers in the crockpot basin. Simply add it back to the base then heat it over low heat until at temperature.
What to serve with these apple cider pork chops:
Spinach Salad with Bacon and Eggs and Poppyseed Dressing
