I am in love with this Halloween Chex mix recipe. It has the sweetness and the salty components with my personal favorite, candy corn! This mix is tossed and slow baked in a very generous amount of melted butter with brown sugar, cinnamon, and maple extract. I just want to tell you; this Halloween snack mix is addicting. I keep this on hand season, and it’s so easy to make! You could even hand it out as little trick or treat goodie bags!
Why You’ll Love This Fall Chex Mix Recipe
It’s easy
I love this recipe because it’s so simple and easy. You’ll just pour it all on the baking sheet, microwave your sugar butter, pour and mix, bake and that’s it!
it’s festive
I love keeping a trash around during holidays. It’s fun and festive!
it’s addicting
This sweet fall Chex mix recipe is literally so addicting. I honestly think it’s the Reese’s Puffs cereal. Whatever it is, you can’t just have one handful. You’ll have to have more!
Questions you might have:
Do I have to use rice Chex?
I would. The rice Chex will really absorb the butter.
Should I use salted or unsalted butter?
I used salted, but you can use either one. It shouldn’t alter the flavor that much.
Peanut Allergy?
You can substitute the Reese’s puffs cereal with Cocoa Puffs and substitute the Reese’s Pieces with M&Ms.
How should I store this Halloween Chex Mix?
I usually store it in an airtight container or a gallon sized plastic bag.
Equipment You’ll Need
The main equipment you’ll need for this recipe is a large baking sheet with a lip edge on it lined with some parchment paper. You’ll also need a smaller microwavable mixing bowl to heat your butter in. Of course, you also may want a cute dish to serve it in!
Ingredients You’ll Need
Rice Chex Cereal:
I used two cups of rice Chex cereal. I like the rice Chex for this recipe better than the other varieties.
Reese’s Puff Cereal:
The Reese’s puffs are ESSENTIAL for this recipe! It’s my favorite component!
Mini Pretzels:
Candy Corn & Candy Pumpkins:
Candy corn is my weakness. I love it and could eat it alone. Candy corn and pumpkins add that good sugary bite to the mix and it adds some fun color and shapes!
Reese’s Pieces:
More of that peanut butter flavor. So good and different texture.
Butter:
As for the coating, you’ll need a stick and a half of butter. I used unsalted, but it really doesn’t matter.
Brown Sugar:
You’ll need 4 tablespoons of brown sugar. You’ll add this in the bowl while the sticks of butter cook. Then stir it all together to make your molasses-like coating!
Cinnamon:
You’ll need one tablespoon of cinnamon.
Maple Extract:
Ok. You don’t have to add this, but I think it’s so worth it. I love using maple extract in the fall. It adds the perfect smell and flavor to each bite!
