Why This Broccoli Puff Pastry Recipe Is Great

YOu can make it ahead

I mixed the broccoli, ham and cheese filling together and stored it in my fridge overnight in an airtight container. The next morning, I spread it on my pastries, and it was ready in around 20 minutes.

The variations are endless

The variations to this recipe are endless. You don’t have to use broccoli or ham. You could use asparagus, spinach, turkey, sausage, you name it! The concept and baking are still the same.

Make this pastry into smaller squares

You could also make these into broccoli ham and cheese puff pastry squares. You would repeat the same recipe below, except first dividing your sheets into smaller squares in the beginning.

Equipment You’ll Need

The star piece of equipment that you’ll need for this puff pastry brunch meal is a non-stick baking pan. I have linked a couple below. I am partial when it comes to baking pans. I love a nice quality pan, strictly for clean-up reasons. They are soooo much easier to clean.

You’ll also need a knife, cutting board and some mixing bowls. I love these Rada knives. Some of you may recognize them as the “fundraiser” knives. I have so many knives, and these are by far my favorite, even compared to some of my pricier knives. Seriously, they are the best.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Like I mentioned earlier, anything goes with this recipe. However, I love the broccoli, ham and cheese. I used a steamable bagged broccoli. I microwaved it and chopped it all up. It turned our perfect and so much easier than buying fresh and cooking it.

I also just used a deli ham. Again, anything works for this. I do think, however, I did specifically use honey ham for this recipe. I also used a cheddar blend of cheese. It’s just personally what I had at home.

Step by Step How to Make This Ham Cheese and Broccoli Casserole Puff Pastry Tart

Step One

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Unthaw and stretch out one puff pastry sheet onto a baking pan lined with parchment paper. Take the other sheet and cut it into strips. Lay and tuck each strip on the perimeter edges of the first one. It will look like a frame around the edges and will serve as your crust. Poke holes with a fork all throughout the bottom later pastry.

Step Two

Mix shredded cheese, broccoli, ham, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, garlic powder and sugar into a bowl. Stir until it is thoroughly mixed. Spread it evenly inside the “frame” section of the pastry.

Step Three

Melt butter and brush it all over the crust edges of the pastry. Add sesame seeds if you choose. Bake for around 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the inner filling is bubbly. Remove from oven and cut into squares. Enjoy!
