Why You’ll Love this Heirloom Tomato Salad
It’s so quick
This recipe is so fast and easy to make. You basically just have to slice the tomatoes, plate them with the mozzarella and basil, mix your glaze and drizzle it over. This maybe will take you ten minutes at the most to make.
It’s a perfect summer dish
I love this recipe because it just screams summertime. The tomatoes are so fresh and beefy. Them paired with the fresh mozzarella, basil and glaze make for the lightest and most refreshing treat.
Equipment You’ll Need
I love a good “throw together” summer dish. I used a chef’s knife and a cutting board to slice my tomatoes, then plated them on a square platter. My platter had a lip on it so the tomato juice won’t drip off the edges. Then, I used a small ceramic bowl to mix my glaze together. When you’re finished, all you have to do is run some water over these items and clean-up is a breeze.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Heirloom Tomatoes:
Heirloom tomatoes are in season in the summer. These are the beautiful, multi-color tomatoes that are large and sometimes misshapen. You can find them at some grocery stores or any farmer’s market in the summer.
Sliced Mozzarella:
I used 16 ounces of fresh mozzarella. You can buy it already pre-sliced. It will be in the deli or cheese section of your grocery store.
Basil:
I left my basil whole, but you can slice your fresh basil and place it over the top.
Cracked Pepper and Sea Salt:
You really do need fresh cracked pepper and sea salt flakes for this recipe. They just add so much more flavor and make this recipe so much better than your typical table salt and pepper.
Glaze:
For the glaze, you’ll mix together one tablespoon of olive oil to one teaspoon of balsamic vinegar and sprinkle a little Italian seasoning within. Mix it together and drizzle over the top!
