These chicken and dumplings with biscuits is seriously the best chicken and dumplings recipe ever. Hands down. You’ll start with a broth base with some chicken, onions and celery. Drop in some cut up canned biscuits. Then, add in some milk, heavy cream, and…white country gravy mix. Yes, it’s literally the last southern chicken and dumplings recipe you’ll ever want or need and it’s so simple to make.
This chicken and dumplings recipe is seriously the ultimate comfort food. Growing up, this was my favorite. I used to always want my grandmother to make this, especially on the holidays. I just don’t think you can get much better than this. Each bite is so fluffy and just melts in your mouth.
Equipment You’ll Need
For this recipe, you’ll need a large pot, a knife and a large spoon or spatula.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Canned Biscuits & Flour:
You’ll need about 3-4 cans of biscuits. I just used the regular buttermilk biscuits and not the flaky kind. You’ll roll them out in plenty of flour and then cut them into 4-6 pieces.
Chopped Yellow Onion & Celery:
You’ll need a yellow onion and celery sticks. You’ll chop them up and sauté them in about 2-3 tablespoons of butter.
Rotisserie Chicken:
I used about a whole rotisserie chicken for this recipe. I never use uncooked chicken for recipes. Some people boil chicken and use it for dumplings. I feel like the flavor is so much better in a rotisserie chicken.
Chicken Broth & Water:
I used equal parts chicken broth and water. I used about 4 cups each. The flour from the biscuits will thicken it up.
Heavy Cream & Milk:
This will add the creaminess to the dumplings.
Country Gravy Mix:
This is essential for this recipe. I only used half of the gravy packet.
