Southern English Pea Salad
This Southern English pea salad is one of my all-time favorites. It’s a perfect dish for spring and Easter, but also all year round. The creaminess of the mayo paired with the softness of the peas along with the eggs and cheese create the perfect, soft flavor combination. The onion and bacon add just the perfect bite and texture to each helping. Please reading along to see how I make this Southern staple in less than 20 minutes.
Equipment You Will Need
This recipe is extremely simple and won’t mess up the entire kitchen. I have the Pyrex set of glass mixing bowls listed below. All I did was microwave my frozen peas according to the package in the largest bowl, drained them once finished, let them cool, then added the rest of the ingredients. Some other miscellaneous items you may need are a spatula, spoon, knife, etc.
Ingredients You Will Need
Not only is this one of my favorite salads to make around Easter, but I also like making it to go with barbeque! Ok, is that weird??? Everyone always eats it with the BBQ! HAHA But really…the recipe is super easy and if you keep a couple of bags of peas in your freezer, you can pretty much make this anytime. The rest of the ingredients are things most people typically would keep stocked!
Frozen Sweet Peas:
I used a Great Value brand bag of frozen peas from Wal-mart. I placed them in a glass bowl with a few tablespoons of water and microwaved them for about 6 minutes. I then drained off all the water let them cool.
Mayonnaise; your typical southern food binder or dressing to your salad.
You can use real fried bacon broken down into bits. However, I used the storebought kind that come in a bag.
This is honestly the longest part of the recipe, boiling the eggs.
Chop your red onion into tiny bits. I used about a 1/3 of an onion. It was about a few tablespoons worth. Just add the onion, taste it, then add more if you think it needs it. Whatever you think.
I actually used a blend. I think it was cheddar and mozzarella. I also used finely shredded. I think it works better for this recipe.
The seasonings I used were salt, pepper, and garlic powder. My favorite trio.
