This is the best Nashville hot chicken recipe to make at home. You’re just going to dice some chicken breast tenderloin and let them sit in a buttermilk and hot sauce for a few hours. Dredge them in egg and twice in a flour mix and fry.
I know frying foods can seem a little intimidating but it’s really not. All you need is a pot or skillet and a food thermometer for success. Once you’ve fried your pieces, you’ll toss them in a buttery, homemade Nashville hot sauce. You CANNOT forget the pickle slices.
Equipment You’ll Need
The main two pieces of equipment that are essential for this recipe are a large skillet for frying and then a food thermometer. I’m always super serious about making sure that my chicken cooks to temperature, so you can buy a thermometer for about $10 at Walmart. You’ll also need several mixing bowls for flour, your eggs and your buttermilk to soak the chicken in. Y’all also need one to mix up your sauce.
Ingredients You’ll Need
Chicken:
You’ll need about two pounds of chicken breasts.
Flour and Seasonings:
I used 2 cups of regular white flour. The seasonings for the flour I used were salt, pepper, lemon pepper, white pepper, paprika, onion powder and garlic powder for the breading.
Buttermilk and Hot Sauce:
You’ll need about 2 to 3 cups of buttermilk and about two tablespoons of hot sauce.
Eggs:
You’ll need about five or six raw eggs for this.
Butter:
For the base of my sauce, I used a stick of melted butter. It can be salted or unsalted; it doesn’t matter.
Oil:
OK… hear me out about the fry all just take a couple of tablespoons of the oil that you’re cooking your chicken in and added to the sauce.
Spices:
Spices for the sauce are going to include paprika, cayenne pepper, chili powder, brown sugar.
Honey:
Can drizzle some honey over the top of these he won’t regret missing the step.
Hamburger Dill Pickles:
I know this sounds so strange, but you have to eat these chicken bites with some hamburger dill pickle chips. There’s just something about the vinegar of the pickles and the hot chicken that goes so well together.
