This is like a Louisiana version of traditional Okra and tomatoes. You’re pretty much cook your okra and tomatoes the traditional way. I sauté them all together in a pan and let them simmer for a while. Then in a separate skillet, you’re going to fully cook a pound of medium size shrimp, and a half stick of butter with some baking Cajun and seasonings. You’ll combine the two to finish it off.

You can technically eat this recipe by itself as a side or on top of rice as a main dish it’s super hardy and has that perfect Louisiana spice to it you definitely want to try to make this.

Equipment You’ll Need

You don’t need too much equipment to make this recipe you’ll need a large skillet and then another skillet to sauté your shrimp and I also used the kitchen ice to trough up my onion, peppers and celery and that’s really about it. I did use a water run over my frozen okra in the sink before I added it to my pot. You can do that or you can let the okra thaw out or use fresh. If you have it it’s really up to you.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Holy Trinity:

You’ll start your holy Trinity, which in Louisiana is yellow onion, green bell pepper, and celery. You’ll chop it up and sauté it and butter until it becomes tender.

Frozen Cut Okra:

You’ll need about 24 ounces of frozen okra. I just use two small bags of frozen cut okra.

Tomatoes:

You need a 28 ounce can of regular petite diced tomatoes and then I use a regular size can of Rotel tomatoes with green chilies. I like the spice in the flavor that this added.

Butter:

I use butter and just about every recipe of mine. You’ll need about 6 tablespoons total for this recipe. I sauté my Trinity in two tablespoons and then I cook the shrimp in about four.

Shrimp:

You need a pound of medium-size shrimp. I like the medium-size for this recipe, but you can use whatever shrimp that you have. Make sure that they are peeled and de-veined.

Seasonings:

Seasonings are salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, Cajun seasoning like Tony Chacheres, And Old bay seasoning. You’ll use the Cajun seasoning and the old bay for your shrimp and the others to season your okra. It’ll all come together at the end.
