Equipment You’ll Need

Ok. When I fry food, I always do it the old-fashioned way. I use a skillet and grease. I’ll heat the temperature up to around 350 and that’s it. If you have a fryer, by all means use it!

I found that using a cookie scoop was the easiest way to portion out the hush puppies. I also didn’t cut the onion. I grated it with a cheese grater. I liked the way it softened up the onion on the inside instead of having big chunks.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Honey Jiffy Mix:

You’ll need one box of the Jiffy honey cornbread mix.

Cornmeal:

I added in more cornmeal. The texture of the batter needs to be thick.

Eggs:

You’ll need two large eggs.

Onion:

You’ll need one white onion. Maybe medium sized. Instead of cutting it, you’ll grate it with a cheese grater.

Pimentos:

You’ll use about a tablespoon or two of pimentos. This is the little jar of pimentos. I use them in so many recipes.

Milk:

You’ll need about a quarter of a cup of milk.

How to Make Jiffy Hush Puppies

Step One:

Fill a large skillet or fryer with vegetable or canola oil. Make sure it’s at least 2 to 3 inches deep. Heat until oil reaches 350 degrees.

Step two:

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well. Using a cookie scooper or two spoons, drop a ball of batter directly into the hot grease. They will flip over themselves while cooking. Remove once they are a golden brown. Serve and enjoy!
