Ham and Swiss Croissant Breakfast Casserole: Savory Honey Ham, flakey croissants, sweet Swiss cheese all in one delicious, eggy bite!

I love breakfast recipes with ham. I guess I am more of a ham eater for breakfast rather than sausage or bacon. This casserole is perfect for a quick breakfast. I bought some mini croissants from my local grocery store bakery, broke them up, and layered them with some thin honey ham. Topped it with some Swiss cheese and an egg mixture for the most perfect casserole rendition of a ham and cheese croissant.

The sweetness from the Swiss makes this dish in my honest option. I then topped each piece with some powdered sugar. WOW! So good. Read along to see how I made this easy breakfast in no time.

Equipment You Will Need…

This is probably one of my favorite breakfast casserole recipes with ham. This recipe does not require a lot of equipment to make. You will need a 9×13 casserole dish. I used my favorite one from Staub that I linked below. You’ll also need some mixing bowl, kitchen knife and some oven mitts.

Ingredients You’ll Need…

Croissants:

I bought some small croissants from my local grocery store bakery.

Thinly Sliced Honey Ham:

I just bought some pre-sliced ham from my local deli section of my grocery store. I feel like in this recipe the thin-sliced works the best.

Swiss Cheese:

The swiss cheese is so good and decadent in this casserole. It adds the perfect hint of sweetness. I couldn’t find shredded Swiss, so I bought the slices and cut them into little cubes. It worked just as good…maybe better!

Eggs:

I used 10 eggs. I feel like it was the perfect amount to where the eggs wouldn’t be the star of the dish, but also still made it plenty moist enough.

Heavy Cream:

When mixing my eggs, I added in a half of a cup of half and half. I always like to do this. I feel like it beefs up the eggs and makes them so much more flavorful and fluffy.

Fresh Thyme:

Just that little hint of herbs. You don’t have to add it, but I thought it was perfect little extra.

Seasonings:

I used garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. I also love using white pepper. It adds that pepper flavor without being quite as strong as traditional black pepper.

Powdered Sugar:

I sifted some powdered sugar on the cut servings once plated. This is a MUST. It adds the perfect sweet to the rich savory casserole.

Step by Step How to Make This Ham and Swiss Croissant Breakfast Casserole

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9×13 casserole dish. Break your croissants into smaller chunks and place them in the dish. Tear your slices of ham into smaller pieces and assort them in between the pieces of croissant. If you are using slices, cut cheese slices into small bits and sprinkle them on top of the bread and ham. Sprinkle the same way if you are using shredded Swiss cheese.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, place eggs, half and half, thyme and seasoning into the bowl and whisk thoroughly. Pour all over the bread, ham and cheese mixture. Shake the dish so that the mixture reaches all the sides and the bottom.

Step 3

Cover the dish with foil and bake on 350 for 20 minutes. Remove foil after the first 20 is up and bake for another 20 minutes uncovered. Remove from oven. Serve warm, and garnish each serving with powdered sugar. Enjoy!
